Nutcote is the name of the estate of renowned Australian children’s author and illustrator, May Gibbs.

May and her husband James Ossoli Kelly commissioned Nutcote from fashionable Sydney architect BJ Waterhouse in 1924. The plot of land was found for May Gibbs by her mother, Mrs Cecilia Gibbs, in 1922 on the foreshore of Sydney Harbour.

Sydney is one of Australia’s, and the world’s, most visited tourist destinations and May Gibbs’ is one of Australia’s most iconic artists.

One of Australia’s foremost children’s authors and illustrators and is best known today for her iconic Australian children’s story, ‘The Complete Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie’. We needed to bring the magic of the brand to life and bring more foot traffic to Nutcote for tourists and local people to experience the preservation of Nutcote and learn about one of Australia’s historical icons.

We designed a luxe website that celebrates the legacy and heritage of May Gibbs’ waterfront home, Nutcote.

Whilst we were originally briefed to provide a new look for the website, after researching the May Gibbs offering, it was decided that a photoshoot was going to be a tremendous part of the new direction.

The new creative solution needed to be one that clearly reflected the ethos of May Gibbs and the way it provides customers with an experience of May’s lifestyle, beyond just her art and writing.

To accompany the new look website, we commissioned a reputable Sydney photographer to embody the May Gibbs essence that is a fusion of Lush Gardens, Sydney’s Harbour and a little magic creating a sanctuous look that people find desirable, relaxing and quaint.

A slightly amended logo and icon was designed to enhance the May Gibbs identity. Along with this, a beautiful colour palette that could be used interchangeably and is responsive to the dynamic online environment.

The website design incorporated the new brand’s aesthetics and reflects a contemporary interior design service provider.
